Dr. Ryan B. Jackson is the executive principal of Mt. Pleasant High School. Before leading Mt. Pleasant, Dr. Jackson was an assistant principal at Maplewood High School, leading the Academy of Energy & Power with STEAM initiatives, dual enrollment and dual credit opportunities and was a champion for the school and the district’s Project-Based Learning curriculum.

Before serving in a leadership role, Jackson was a high school English teacher, where he started his school’s first AP Language & Composition program and revived a student-centered, student-produced school newspaper, the latter of which garnered numerous awards and recognitions from the Tennessee High School Press Association.

Jackson’s tenure in education has sent him as far as China to exchange leadership philosophies as part of Vanderbilt University and Metro Nashville Public Schools’ Principal Leaders Academy of Nashville (PLAN). Jackson is also a TN EdVoice Fellow, a cohort of cutting-edge TN teachers and principals dedicated to instructional leadership, best practices and cultivating a culture of greatness.

Furthermore, Jackson is the creator of the Competitive Teaching Model (CTM), a socio-emotional based teaching strategy that positively impacts students’ perceived sense of belonging and its correlation to student achievement. This model formed the basis for Jackson’s successful TED Talk, How competition ignites educational success. Jackson is also an Arts advocate, presenting nationally at the Americans for the Arts convention regarding his #ArtAntidote philosophy.
